American Women in the 1940's

There are many things that affected the social status and role of American women in the 40s, and they all should be considered to get a better idea of their lifestyles, challenges, and so on. Basically, their status was greatly influenced by changes in economic conditions at that time and other important factors, such as the persistence of traditional gender roles and the rebirth of women’s movements.

It’s true that their roles in the society changed during and after WWII because women became more involved in the necessary working force and managed to get a higher status in the 40s this way. You should understand that the persistence of their traditional roles made it hard for women to overcome existing stereotypes. They were considered housewives who had to work only if they were single, but things changed in WWII because women started to become factory workers and get other occupations.

During WWII, American women did the work necessary to support the army, and they were provided with an opportunity to earn a good living. It’s interesting that some of them decided to work without any salary. In general, most of them had to do harder jobs than before while still having their household responsibilities. This is what brought American women into the working force and allowed them to get decent white collar jobs.

Later, they needed to put up a fight when men came back after the war and wanted to get their jobs back. It’s natural that men wanted women to return to their household responsibilities, but they succeeded to remain on their work, this changing the standard definition of their roles in the American society. Another important factor that should be discussed is that their status rose because of changing economic conditions.

No need to say that there was quite a poor period before WWII. Average women used to stay home and take care of their house chores, such as preparing a dinner. Their main responsibility was ensuring that their family wouldn’t be hungry and their house would remain neat and comfortable. When WWII started, their roles changed considerably because most men had to fight for their country. That’s why women had to run factories, do businesses, and other things so that they tool men’s place completely. In conclusion, this is how American women started to work at factories, steel mills, and other similar places in the 40s. They took the best of their abilities and skills to succeed, and they didn’t go wrong because they impressed everyone with their incredible achievements.

There are many things that affected the social status and role of American women in the 40s, and they all should be considered to get a better idea of their lifestyles, challenges, and so on.
