William Golding's Lord Of The Flies

Lord of Flies is a famous novel written by William Golding and published in 1954. Basically, its plot is focused on people’s capacity for evil, and it’s revealed in their inherent nature. This means that the underlying evil within all men is the most important theme of this book, but it’s quite controversial.

To portray it successfully, the author detailed the lives of young school-age boys who stranded on one deserted island. They need to survive so that they are faced with different challenges, such as finding a good shelter, nourishing, looking for food, searching for possible ways to be rescued, and so on. They also do their best to maintain a civilized order and personal humanity.

However, it becomes clear that most of these boys can do something evil under extreme circumstances. William Golding uses a number of effective literary devices to develop and reflect the main theme of this popular book, including dictions, characterizations, and symbolism in the narrative on people’s inhumanity towards each other. This is what allows him to portray the main theme that evil is an important trait of the entire mankind.

Some people may argue that his use of characterizations solidifies his personal contention that all people can do evil things because of their innate human nature. The author chooses 2 main characters, Ralph and Jack, as his key examples of this important theme. When it comes to Jack, he is violent, selfish, and corrupt in his nature, while Ralph is a positive character who constantly fights with the first one. Keep in mind that William Golding uses characterizations via their actions and dialogues to support his main idea.

Focus on the further explanations of his perspective and use of dictions to reinforce this theme. The author claims that evil has an impact even on innocent kids. Besides, another effective literary took used by him to exemplify this theme is symbolism. Take into consideration the pig’s head of the stick because it symbolizes the Lord of the Flies, a demon that can be found within the mind and heart of every boy on this island. It’s possible to interpret this symbol as the inner voice of something evil.

Finally, William Golding depicts his theme that all men can do evil things because of their innate primal nature and this is how he reveals the true characters of Jack, Ralph, and others. Different acts of violence are included in this book to support this argument.

Lord of Flies is a famous novel written by William Golding and published in 1954. Basically, its plot is focused on people’s capacity for evil, and it’s revealed in their inherent nature.
