If you’re asked to write a great movie bias paper, the first step that should be taken is choosing an interesting and original movie to be evaluated. For example, think about conducting your research about Shallow Hal with such famous actors as Paltrow and Black playing major roles. I did the same step because I decided to rent this film after its release on video and reading many positive reviews written by critics and average people.
I didn’t want to watch this movie in a local cinema because I decided that its plot is a bit simple after watching certain scenes on different TV ads and commercials. The whole story seemed to be about one guy who dated an overweight woman. However, this movie turned out to be a good and simple story with quite interesting, clever, and beautiful messages.
Basically, its targeted audience is quite broad because it includes different social and other groups. The popularity of leading actors contributes to the popularity of this movie too, but the only minor drawback is that there are no non-Caucasian actors involved so that it may not attract a range of ethnic and multicultural viewers.
This movie starts with a scene in one private hospital where a physician examined the chart of his patient who is Hal’s father. Unfortunately, this doctor has to explain to his wife that her spouse is dying so that she just wants to say goodbye to him. What about Hal? Viewers will see him as a chubby and quite sensitive 9-year old kid who is also present in the hospital room of his father. He feels a bit unsure, awkward, and afraid when watching his father who is sedated to stop feeling pain.
When he understands that his son is nearby, he starts sharing some wise ideas and statements with him. For example he tells Hal that the only true happiness he can find in the arms of an attractive and young woman, but her description sounds a bit shocking. Hals feels embarrassed to hear such words, but it doesn’t stop him to give his last promise to a father.
Hal grows up and becomes a man who is obsessed with every beautiful woman he sees, and this is what seems to affect his work too. He is not worried about his rejected promotion, but he seemed to be concerned with a rejection of his attractive neighbor called Jill. His co-workers criticize Hal for dating only attractive and young girls who are not interested in his personality. Finally, the main turning point of this story is when he is trapped with Robbins on the elevator.
