The Black Plague Effects

One of the most devastating and horrible events in people’s history happened in European countries in the 14th century. They were not prepared for this fatal and dangerous disease called the Black Plague so that each part of the society in Europe was affected by it, including economy, education, religion, culture, everyday life, and so on. Basically, the first reports about this tragic disease came from Italy.

This killing medical condition arrived by boats and was spread to many other regions very fast. It’s no wonder big cities were affected considerably because this infection was received through the goods bought by people. Another important fact is that rats carried contaminated fleas, thus bringing this black plague to Europe and its multiple towns. At that time, cities were quite unclean and their hygiene was quite poor. It’s no wonder they’re more favorable to such contract ailments as diarrhea because they didn’t weaken them.

People were often bitten by rats and fleas right on the street so that they became ill very fast. The worst part of this story is that most infected people died within the first few days. Besides, another major reason why the Black Plague was quite devastating is that European countries weren’t in their good shape. They were involved in wars and many of them lost endless men in such conflicts. Don’t forget that this tragic disease spread so fast because wealthy people who had enough money to relocate brought this infection with them to new places.

You should understand that it’s a terrible disease that killed almost 2/3 of the European population of that time. Rat fleas were responsible for spreading it, as you already know. There are many symptoms that characterize this deadly medical condition, including weakness, nausea, vomiting, headaches, inability to walk, swelling, unusual skin color, high temperature, and others. This ailment spread so rapidly because most people in European countries lived in quite awful conditions, including poverty and death. They had no running water, enough food, and possibility to take a bath.

Many of infected people turned to churches because it was their last hope. This is where they were nursed and looked after, but many people blamed religions for their problems. Some of them claimed that Jews were responsible for the Black Plague. Luckily, the humanity managed to win this terrible epidemic and it won’t come back again.
