In July 1899, Churchill received an offer to run for parliament from the Conservative Party from Oldham. In April 1908, due to deteriorating health condition of Campbell-Bannerman, he was unable to perform the duties of the Prime Minister and resigned. His position was taken by Herbert Asquith, who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer, his place was taken by David Lloyd George, the former Minister of Trade and industry, while the post of the latter was taken by Churchill.
