Language and Communication in Elementary Mathematics Teaching

In the initial training of elementary mathematics word problems play an important role. By solving them, pupils acquire the mathematical knowledge, preparing for practice. Poorer mathematical performers are more vulnerable to lexical ambiguities. It is recommended to teach monitoring the language in the classroom, enrich contextual clues, apply ambiguities to improve and confront the words they use for possible meanings.
