The Effect of Divorce on Sons Aggression

The effect of divorce on sons aggression shouldn’t be underestimated by those parents who want to terminate their marital life.

There are many studies related to the negative and long-term effective of divorce on kids, especially on boys. Basically, some experts think that divorces and living in a single-parent house damages children permanently, while others believe that they experience no negative effects, but the truth is somewhere in between.

In the ideal world, boys live with their fathers and mothers while experiencing a sense of significance and belonging and learning to be competent and capable as they grow up. It’s true that children don’t always live in this ideal situation these days. When parents decide to stop living together, the lives of their kids become more complicated, but it shouldn’t be awful or impossible.

Many people think that the kids of divorced parents will fail to have healthy and happy marriages or relationships in their adult lives, but they are wrong. According to the latest research, more than 40% of the adult children of divorced couples are happily married. However, there are certain risks for boys associated with having separated or divorced parents.

For example, boys are more likely to react to the divorces of their parents with anger, aggression, academic issues, truancy, and other problems than girls who often try to please adults by suppressing their true emotions and feelings. Another important fact is that boys are more likely to develop depression when their fathers leave, especially if they don’t have an opportunity to spend enough time together. Besides, boys may lose connections with their mothers who need to work longer to earn a living for the entire family and keep their house running. Boys also assume that they are guilty for ruining their families.

It’s worth mentioning that many negative effects of divorces are connected with economics. That’s because men are more likely than woman to maintain their standards of living after getting divorced, while women’s economic levels fall considerably. They may have to relocate to those schools and areas that are less stable and safe to be able to save some money, and this is what also causes certain problems for boys. For fathers, it’s required to continue their financial and emotional supports even after getting divorced if they want their sons to live happier and avoid aggressive behaviors. They also need to encourage enough emotional awareness because boys often mask their true emotions.

The effect of divorce on sons aggression shouldn’t be underestimated by those parents who want to terminate their marital life.
