Paper on Dealing with Death

All people throughout life have to face with death, which is a part of life itself. Strong emotions experienced by a man when he or she loses a loved one through death called grief. Woe is a necessary process, and it cannot be considered a sign of weakness, as this is the way by which a person recovers from tangible losses. Woe is the process, by which a person works with a loss of pain, regaining a sense of balance and fullness of life.

The loss of a loved one usually occurs suddenly when a person is not ready for it, or does not have enough resources to cope with it easily. With the loss of a loved one a person goes through four stages.

  • Recognition of a loss. The realization that a person is gone and will never come back. The denial of a loss may be severe. People prone to denials of the loss may develop pathological reactions, such as depression.
  • Feeling and live through the pain of loss. If a person moves away from the pain, his or her conduct may be inadequate. The loss that wasn’t felt through can be expressed in a variety of bodily reactions – back pain, sciatica, and osteochondrosis.
  • Life changes in a new way, especially in those aspects where there is the absence of the deceased. New relationships are built. If this problem is not solved, the person retains helplessness.
  • Transfer of emotional energy from old relations in new relationship. If there is a feeling of guilt and a fixation on past relationships, there is a sense of dependence on the past, it may lead to the fading of life and constant fixation on the past.

A man dies or goes away and wants to take a piece of the one who remains. Suffering arises from the fact that we have lost a part of our soul. So one of the tasks in dealing with death is to restore that part that has been taken from people, and to regain what we have. Thus, we again give ourselves a sense of freedom. Then we have the opportunity to interact with new people. We become open to new meetings and experiences. Every day we enter into a relationship for the first time, because every day we return to ourselves and give to others what we have taken from them.

A person experiencing the loss of a loved one may experience a variety of symptoms: apathy, loss of interest in everything, everything seems gloomy, people live in the past, constantly going back in mind to the memories about the communication with the person who died, disturbed sleep, insomnia, disturbed appetite, anxiety, restlessness, feeling of anguish, despair, discomfort in the chest, thoughts of death.

If there are at least three of these criteria and the condition continues for long enough, expert’s help is needed.
