The Romantic Period Characteristics

The Romantic Period influenced many arts in the 19th century, including music. The latter one was full of emotions, individualism, and imagination. Keep in mind that this period was about breaking away from all kinds of time-honored conventions and the freedom of expression. When it comes to painters, they used bolder and brighter colors to work, and they also chose a more dynamic motion to well-balanced and graceful poses.

Don’t forget about poetry because it also changed during this period in arts. For example, emotional subjectivity was the main quality in each type of art at that time so that many artists became romantics and drawn to the realm of their fantasies and the world of irrational and unconscious dreams. It’s worth mentioning that they were interested in the Middle Ages because it was the time of romance and chivalry. What neoclassicists thought to be the dark ages, romantics had cherished a lot.

The Romantic Period saw the start of perfect individualism in different music styles. This era included many great contrasts in music, literature, and other areas, thus developing a new branch of philosophy that dealt with taste and beauty. Remember that it was the period marked by distinctive characters and such unique music forms as intimate preludes, operas, big concertos.

Another important thing that should be mentioned is that romanticism got its name from romances that included medieval poems and tales about heroes. Besides, the life approach represented by this period differed from the Classic Period. The latter one was impersonal, objective, and operated under certain rules, while romanticism expressed a lot of freedom because it was both subjective and personal. The personal element in many creative expressions was quite apparent at that time.

This era is also characterized by a specific literary movement, and different romantic ideas spread all over Europe very fast. This is how romanticism became a philosophy for poets, painters, dramatists, composers, and dancers. There are many musical compositions that were named with very descriptive titles or complied to different literary programs, such as the painting that tried to illustrate given stories.

In conclusion, when you hear about romanticism, you can think about it as some subconscious rebellion against the future Industrial Revolution and machines that took over the work and were believed to threaten people’s dignity.

The Romantic Period influenced many arts in the 19th century, including music. The latter one was full of emotions, individualism, and imagination. Keep in mind that this period was about breaking away from all kinds of time-honored conventions and the freedom of expression.
