The Concept of Communism

Communism in Marxism is a hypothetical social and economic system based on social equality, public ownership of the means of production.

After the 19th century, the term is often used to refer to the predicted in theoretical studies by Marxist socio-economic system based on social ownership of the means of production.

In the early stages of human development, primitive communism on the basis of community of property was the only form of human society. As a result of property and social stratification of primitive society and the emergence of class society, communism became a dream about the just society.

Communist views at its birth were based on a demand for social equality on the basis of community of property. One of the first formulations of communism in medieval Europe was attempts to modernize Christian theology and politics in the form of Poverty of Philosophy.

During the Peasant War in Germany in the 16th century, there were calls for the overthrow of the government of things and money to build a just society based on the equality of people, including a common property. Although the basis of these ideas was purely religious – everybody is equal for Christ and the possession of the property should not violate it. Several centuries later, there is an egalitarian communism – the main component of the bourgeois revolutions of the 17th-18th centuries, in particular in the 17th century in England and in France in the end of the 18th century. A secular ideology of communism appeared. It developed the idea of a community, which is implemented in the freedom and equality of human beings to each other through a common communal ownership of property.

The next concept of communism came in the context of workers’ socialism –from Charles Fourier to Marx and Engels. There was awareness of the economic contradictions as the mechanism of development of society.

In the first half of the 19th century, works of Saint-Simon, Charles Fourier, Robert Owen and other utopian socialists appeared. According to their views, ideas of labor as enjoyment, prime of human abilities, strive to ensure all their needs, centralized planning, and distribution in proportion to the labor should play an important role in a just social system.

German philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in the spring of 1847 joined a secret propaganda society Communist League. On behalf of the society they created famous Communist Manifesto, published on February 21, 1848. In it they declared the inevitability of the collapse of capitalism by the proletariat hand and provided a brief program of transition from the capitalist social formation to the Communist one.
