The Right to Die and Dying with Dignity

The right to die is a moral concept that is based on suggestions that people are entitled to commit suicides or undergo their voluntary euthanasia. Basically, the possession of this right is understood that those people who have terminal diseases should be free to commit suicides or decline any life-prolonging treatment because it will only continue their suffering.

There are many controversial debates associated with this subject because people have different opinions on who should be empowered to make this kind of decision. Proponents associated this right with the idea that people belong to themselves, but a legal state interest in preventing irrational suicides is argued. Some people believe that a decision to commit a suicide should be both a personal choice and the only option under existing circumstances.

It’s interesting that Hinduism accepts this right when it comes to those people who suffer from terminal ailments or have no desires or responsibilities left. This religion allows death via a non-violent practice of fasting to starvation. Besides, Jainism has a similar technique called Santhara, but the opinions of other religions vary based on their tolerance rates, including the denial of this right and its condemnation. Catholics think that any suicide is a serious sin.

Nowadays, there are more and more debates about doctor-assisted suicides. The main question that people want to answer is whether doctors should help patients in their planned death if they are fatally sick, and this topic is argued from different sides. Pay attention to special organizations, such as Right to Die, because they argue that those people who are terminally sick should have their right to end their suffering and be able to die with dignity. Don’t forget about the opponents of this controversial subject because they claim that the whole idea is wrong in its moral sense and will only result in medical profession to value death, but bot preserving life.

The problem of assisted suicides is widely recognizable all over the world. In Oregon, there is a completely different policy because it declares this act legal, and this is what allows doctors to prescribe qualified patients fata doses of medications under specific circumstances. However, when this act is legal, there are certain risks and unwanted events that may become quite evident sooner or later.
