A Comparison of Jefferson and Hamilton

If you’re fond of American history, you should pay attention to the politics of the early Republic, including Hamilton and Jefferson because they are worth your attention. After making a simple comparison, you will understand that they have both differences and similarities that should be studied. Basically, to complete this task properly, there are certain questions you should answer.

How do they political philosophies differ? When it comes to clear-thinking people, they know some rudimentary facts about Jefferson while not having any clear idea of Hamilton and his major contributions. Keep in mind that Hamilton’s concept of the government was as important as Jefferson’s one because they foresaw their nation as an incredible power in the future, but their plans of action were quite different.

For example, Jefferson thought that the strength of this nation was in agricultural roots. He was also opposed to the strong central authority and believed in the idea that people could be a final authority in the government. He also encourages the active support of the French Revolution. On the contrary, Hamilton favored quite a strong central authority and he thought that only the strong government was needed to ensure the right order for industries and businesses to develop. He predicted that America would get its industrial power and wanted to establish a national bank. Hamilton also thought that the government had to be run by those people who were wealthy and educated. Another interesting detail is that he opposed any involvement into the French Revolution.

Was the conflict between them an important factor for the emergence of political parties? This is what boosted the development of political parties because fractions were polarized on opposite sides. Those politicians who supported democratic-republicans and Jefferson were for states’ rights and the French revolutions, while those ones who backed up federalists and Hamilton chose the stronger central government.

Which view was the best? Why? It’s hard to define if either view can be considered worse or better for the US. When you consider Hamilton’s ambitions, innovation, and vision, they might carry him too far. As a result, the federal government might be too strong and limit people’s rights. Jefferson’s policies ensured the right counter balance to Hamilton’s political concepts.
