Let’s highlight the Theory of Taj Mahal

Perhaps, you’ve already heard something about Taj Mahal. That’s one of the most legendary buildings ever. It’s high time to unveil exclusive facts closely connected with it.

The Taj Mahal was built to honor the emperor’s favorite wife

Just like many of his predecessors, Shah Jahan had to marry several wives over the course of his adult life. Though Shah Jahan dared to spread his heart around, in fact, none of these women found the same favor as his third wife, Arjumand Banu Begum, mostly known as Mumtaz Mahal. Their union lasted up to 19 years and led to the birth of approximately 14 kids. Unfortunately, tough complications during the birth of the final kids killed her at the age of 39. Needless to say, Shah Jahan was shocked by the loss of his longtime beloved companion that he made up his mind to memorialize Mahal with a magnificent tomb. Construction on the Mahal as well as its surroundings started in 1632, just one year after her death, and continued for two decades.

The only part of the mausoleum, which isn’t ornately decorated appears to be the actual grave

According to Muslim law, graves can’t be adorned with elaborate decoration, which would be rather an inappropriate expression of vanity. Exactly rule explains the comparatively modest design of the lower level of the palace where Shah Jahan’s wife found her final place.

The grave site appears to be the only part, which isn’t perfectly symmetrical

The Taj Mahal is perhaps any obsessive’s dream, especially considering its meticulous symmetry across its long and wide diameters. However, the only exception to this uniform aesthetic scheme lies in the gravesite. Mumtaz Mahal’s casket is situated in the exact center of the palace crypt, though it’s Shah Jahan’s grave, which was itroduced to the mausoleum after his death in 1666 and it rocks its artistic equilibrium with a west-of-center resting place.

The palace’s dosing suggests that everything will fall away from Mumtaz Mahal’s tomb in the event of a collapse

The placement of the Taj Mahal’s four minarets with the 130-foot-tall spires at the edge of the platform didn’t appear to be an aesthetic choice. On the contrary, it was a strategic decision.

By the way, in the 17th century, it wasn’t common for massive architectural buildings to fall victim to their own weight. To protect the crypt of Mumtaz Mahal, Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, chief architect tilted the towers slightly so that they would fall away from the rest of the tomb, thus preventing the grave from suffering any damages.
