Kaluza proposed a universal field theory, according to which light is the oscillation of hyperspace. The equations of Einstein’s gravitational field, rewritten for five dimensions instead of four, were consistent with Maxwell’s theory of light. Thus, it was possible to combine the two greatest field theories known to science.

Light, therefore, is the curvature of hyperspace. Einstein postponed the publication of Kaluza’s article for two years. For the first time the concept of the fifth dimension was used to create the laws of physics.

It is difficult to describe the fifth dimension. Movement in it is happening in a circle. Topologically equivalent to a five-dimensional world is a cylinder.

Another problem is that the fifth dimension is too small, so it cannot be measured. It is collapsed in a very small circle which radius is much smaller than the radius of the atom. Nevertheless, this dimension allows us to travel back and forth in time.

Since physics cannot measure the fifth dimension, its existence cannot be proven. Although the idea of the fifth dimension allowed to geometrically describe the naturally occurring forces.
