The Aristocratic Family of Plato

Plato was born in one aristocratic family in Athens. When he was a small kid, his father (Ariston) who was a descent of early kings died so that his mother married again. It’s worth noting that Plato was quite interested in political leaderships when he was a young man, and he even became the disciple of Socrates.

Plato followed his dialectic style and philosophy while searching for truth via answers, questions, etc. When he witnesses the death of Socrates because of the Athenian democracy, he left his city and decided to travel to such countries as Egypt and Italy. Besides, he founded his own academy in Athens that was called the 1st European university. This educational facility provided students with a variety of curriculum, including such interesting and important subjects as biology, astronomy, mathematics, philosophy, political theory, and others. Keep in mind that one of the best and most outstanding students of this university was Aristotle.

Its internal affairs took the next twenty years of Plato’s life so that he wrote nothing. There are many Greek young people who were attracted to this academy. Plato decided to go to Syracuse to supervise the right education of a ruling prince, but he wasn’t sure about the success of this kind of adventure, although he understood that it’s impossible to refuse from this chance of putting his major ideas to a test. However, things didn’t work out so that Plato had to come back to Athens.

He devoted his time and efforts to lecturing and teaching at his academic, and he died when he was eighty years old. Before his death, Plato succeeded to complete his major works, such as the Laws, the Sophist, and so on. As an example, the Symposium is one of the most widely read dialogues of Plato, with one exception (the Republic). The main reason is that its literary merit is really amazing in philosophical and other senses.

When it comes to his early dialogues, Socrates always played the most important role in them because Plato seemed to picture his spirit alive. Don’t overlook the early dialogues that portray Socrates in different whimsical moods, but it’s done with serious purposes. It’s true that the Republic is one of the most revealing early writings of Plato who believed that it’s impossible to construct any political theory without metaphysics. You can find the outline of human lives as it must be lived according to the nature.
