The Frequency of Presidential Appointees on Federal Judges

The frequency table can help you find out how many presidential appointees every president made when it comes to federal judges. This number is calculated on an annual basis to show that there is a steady increase these appointees. However, the only exceptions include Carter who showed more and Ford who showed less.

It’s worth mentioning that all federal judges are appointed for their life terms, but one of the most important conditions is their good behavior. This increased number is connected with certain issues that should be discussed. As you already know, Ford is one of the exceptions mentioned above, and this president served less than 3 years. He appointed less than 5 federal judges per year, and the other exception (Carter) served 4 years and make more than 55 appointments. This means that he had a great impact on the modern federal court system.

Other presidents who deserve your attention include Clinton and Bush. When it comes to the latter one, you should pay attention to relevant facts that prove that his federal judge appointees were within his party lines more than 90% of the time. For example, he appointed 37 federal judges, and 34 of them were republicans, while only 2 of them were democrats.

Besides, Clinton decided to stay within his party lines, but this rate was a bit lesser – only 85%, so that he appointed 48 federal judges, and 41 of them were democrats, while others appointees included republicans and independent.

It’s obvious that presents tend to appoint federal judges based on their personal ideologies and ideas. As an example, those republican federal judges who are chosen due to their conservative views tend to make their court decisions that favor large businesses and the government. This aspect becomes significant in the litigation that involves such cases as environmental issues, labor-management conflicts, and personal injuries when corporate American is called a defendant.

Those democratic presidents who appoint federal judges according to their political views tend to choose democrats. This means that they are liberals who are less concerned with the rights of corporate America and the US government because they are more concerned with the rights of average people. This aspect becomes more evident when it comes to those court issues that involve the rights of people in criminal cases, discrimination of minorities and women, etc.

The frequency table can help you find out how many presidential appointees every president made when it comes to federal judges. This number is calculated on an annual basis to show that there is a steady increase these appointees. However, the only exceptions include Carter who showed more and Ford who showed less.
