Rachel Louise Carson '1907-64'

If you’re interested in the biography of Rachel Louise Carson, the first thing that you should know is that she was a talented and famous American marine biologist who wrote a number of popular books on different ecological subjects.

Rachel was born in Pennsylvania where she grew up and got her education. Keep in mind that Carson was an aquatic biologist and wrote four interesting books. Silent Spring is one of the most famous books, and this is where she questions the use of different chemical pesticides because she thinks that it’s responsible for growing concerns about preserving the environment. Besides, this book takes its hard look at the effects of such harmful chemicals as weed killers, insecticides, and others, including the sprays used for different agricultural purposes.

There is an opinion that people poison streams, lakes, domestic and wild animals, and the environment by introducing these deadly chemicals. That’s why Carson’s book is focused on the important role of balancing within the environment. It’s necessary for farmers to understand that chemical sprays kill not only insects, but birds too.

Rachel also examines the way harmful chemicals are used without enough researching and considering their potential risks and dangers in terms of wildlife, soil, water, people, etc. Basically, their use creates an evil chain of death and poisoning. She was right because endless pesticides eventually poisoned the world of living things.

Silent Spring is the book that is recognized not only for describing the severity of chemical use, but it also tells the audience more about the effects of substance use on the entire community. Its content helped many people to paint a clearer picture and look into their future instead of thinking only about the present. This book starts with a catchy short story that describes a town where people and nature live in harmony.

The author presents central problems by describing the disasters faced by this town. They are caused by people’s ignorance of environmental hazards resulted by their wrong decisions. It’s obvious that this town is not real, but this situation may happen in any place in the world. In summary, people need to understand that their lives and eco systems are all about a result of their interactions with other living and non-living things. This balance shouldn’t be ruined if they don’t want to be faced with the same problems and natural disasters.
