Christianity can be entirely fit in one word – Christ. But what does it mean? It is a sacrifice that Christ has done for the sake of the human race. This perception on oneself of the whole human nature, its damage, and distortion that befell Adam, and then all his children by virtue of falling away from God. Christ became an oath and sin for us. This is the most essential thing that distinguishes Christianity from all other religions.
True Christianity has always maintained the inspiration, adequacy and the supreme authority of Holy Scripture. It taught that God’s written Word is the only infallible rule of faith and practice of religion. It never allowed the opinion or doctrine of the church to be above or on par with Scripture. In spite of our imperfection, this ancient book was intended to be the sole measure of the life and teachings.
True Christianity has always taught about the total depravity and guilt of human nature. It tells people that they are born in sin and deserve God’s wrath and condemnation, and by the nature are inclined to do evil things. It has consistently argued the danger of the human condition, person’s disgust and need of divine forgiveness and atonement of sins.
True Christianity has always pointed people to the Lord Jesus Christ as the supreme object of faith and hope in religion, as the Divine Mediator between God and men, as the only source of peace in the heart and root of all spiritual life. The main truths about Christ are the atonement of sin committed by His death, His sacrifice on the cross, complete freedom from guilt and condemnation through His blood, His victory over death through the resurrection, His effective intercession at the right hand of God and the absolute necessity of our simple faith in Him. To say briefly, Christianity spoke of Christ as the Alpha and Omega of all Christian theology.
True Christianity has always revered Personality of God, the Holy Spirit and His magnificent work. It has never taught that all professing Christians have the grace of the Spirit in their hearts as a self-evident phenomenon, because they have been baptized, or because they joined the Church. It has steadily kept the truth that the fruit of the Spirit is the only evidence of the possession of the Spirit. It has always taught that we must be born of the Spirit, be guided by the Spirit, hallowed by the Spirit and feel the action of the Spirit; and that close walks with God on the ways of his commandments, holy life, love, self-denial, purity and zeal for good are the only reliable sign of the Holy Spirit’s presence.
