Susan B Anthony

Susan B. Anthony occupies one of the leading places among America’s 20th-century social activists. She also played a crucial role in the suffrage movement, whose representatives were in favor of women’s suffrage.

Since her early years, Susan advocated the abolition of slavery and denied any racial prejudice, which remained on the territory of the United States even after the adoption of the relevant amendment to the US Constitution in 1865. Today, many experts call Susan B. Anthony one of the most successful social workers of the world, as both her kinds of activity – women’s rights and abolitionism – were accepted by the government and enshrined in the Constitution, becoming the 19th and 13th amendments, and today are in the laws of most countries. Within 45 years, Anthony traveled around the country as part of her campaign, giving about 100 lectures a year.

Today, she is recognized as one of the greatest orators of the United States, whose lectures gathered and united many thousands of people, and laid an important foundation stone to a modern American democracy.

In 1851, a casual acquaintance with Elizabeth Cady Stanton completely changed her life forever inscribing Susan’s name in American history. Together, they founded the National Association for the voting rights of women, which has become a leading force in the suffragette movement. During the following decades, they gave lectures at major universities in America, urging students to realize the importance of adopting necessary amendments to the Constitution. Thanks to the wonderful education and erudition, Anthony skillfully argued her position, finding supporting statements in the Constitution. In 1872, she tried to vote in the elections, but was fined for such a flagrant violation. A fine of $100, which was appointed by the court, Susan never paid.

Throughout her life she fought for women’s rights, but she couldn’t see her final victory. On March 13, 1906, Susan B. Anthony died at her home in Rochester, New York.

Fourteen years after the death of Susan B. Anthony, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was adopted, which guarantees equal rights for women, including the right to vote. Susan B. Anthony became one of the few activists, whose work left a mark on the main document of the United States. It is interesting that she herself had never considered herself an important historical figure, recalling that it was simply guided by morality and common sense.

Susan B. Anthony occupies one of the leading places among America’s 20th-century social activists. She also played a crucial role in the suffrage movement, whose representatives were in favor of women’s suffrage.
