The Plea for Tolerance and Reason

For many people, Voltaire is a great example of philosophers during the so-called Enlightenment period. Like many others, he was eager to learn new things, talk about innovative ideas, and find out more about human nature and life in general. It’s possible to suggest that he was quite similar to students because Voltaire was searching for new meaning in his life, share and learn his unique ideas with the rest.

For him, these searches for new ideas and investigating innovative thoughts weren’t as easy task as they are today. He thought that it’s hard to both find new information and share new ideas due to the tight church wrath. You should pay attention to the plea for tolerance and reason because it’s one of the major themes in his works.

It’s easy to tell from his writings that he’s angry and frustrated. Keep in mind that Voltaire lives in the time when people didn’t have any opportunity to have different beliefs than the traditional ones set by the church. Basically, such famous people as Isaac Newton and John Locke had a great impact on him because they taught him many interesting theories and studies. Their important teachings allowed Voltaire to evolve his unique theory, and he believed that all people should rely only on their individual ideas received from their senses.

His ideas were really brilliant and his thoughts about Christians attract a lot of attention of the audience. Voltaire said that Christians called themselves tolerant people, but they used this word with violence, hate, murders, and tortures. This idea indicates that he felt stumbled on something of great importance.

Voltaire knew how to bring about constructive and angry words, organize his interesting ideas in sections about religions and their issues. When it comes to tolerance, Christianity is supposed to inspire the most of it, but Christians seem to be the most intolerant to all men according to the words of Voltaire.

In addition, he asks his readers a number of important and controversial questions about the role of Jesus and relevant topics on Christian dogma, but most of these questions are left unanswered. He admits that he knows nothing about this dogma, but there is no person who does. Voltaire determined fanaticism as the mistakenness dreams for reality and he believed that Christianity could cause it too. He also stated that he was persecuted for different beliefs.

For many people, Voltaire is a great example of philosophers during the so-called Enlightenment period. Like many others, he was eager to learn new things, talk about innovative ideas, and find out more about human nature and life in general.
