The last 10 years, the question of education has not disappeared from the pages of newspapers and magazines. Assertions that the current education system cannot meet the increasing demands of industry, science and all the increasingly complex social life became trite. Almost everybody agrees with that. Discrepancies arise later when the discussion begins, what is the essence of these inconsistencies, or gaps, what are the most characteristic symptoms and what to do to fix them.
The situation has at least two fundamentally different components: a trained and educated man who is faced with certain requirements of the society, and the very system of training and education, where a man is kind of being manufactured. Real breaks occur only in the first area, when educated people cannot meet the requirements. There is no real gap between the society and the education system. But the people seeing gaps between human skill levels, its real possibilities, and what society requires of them transfer the idea of a discrepancy or inconsistency of functional environment from a man on a system of training and education.
It is obvious that there are two different types of gaps, or mismatches, and both practitioners and theorists should treat them differently. The first gap, between the educated person and the demands placed on them, really exists and can be studied in its empirical manifestations. The second gap is introduced indirectly through the fixing of the first one, and has its own special empirical expressions that could be studied independently.
The main problem lies in the fact that the education system has not kept pace with the rapidly changing world, because it remains as an adjunct to other areas of society, it adapts to their interests and serves their private and short-term needs. In this situation, there is an urgent need to revise the basic imperatives of educational activity and define its most important priorities. This is the requirement of the modern era of global instability, in which the actions of one person can lead to planetary effect. Ignoring the problems of education, we thus contribute to the formation of the generation of people who are not capable of critical, creative thinking, to actively participate in various forms of social communications.
Therefore, we need a system of education, which provides an opportunity and is far ahead of all the situational demands of the society. Moreover, it needs to set the tone, create the atmosphere of searching for all of the existing and other possible future areas of society, helping the formation of initiative and creative personality type.
