Writing the Best Tess of the d’Urbervilles Analysis

How does destiny affect people’s lives? Some people don’t believe in fate, while others think that everything is already known. When it comes to Tess of the D’Urbervilles written by Thomas Hardy, you read the story of a young and attractive girl who becomes a fallen woman. She is a victim of her destiny and wrong decisions because fate takes her to the path where she must suffer a lot.

Tess makes her own fate that transforms her into a fallen woman in the end. This is how Thomas Hardy reveals the conflict that exists and describes the inevitable misery of people. Basically, he uses the main elements of New Criticism to show readers how destiny and fate affect the life of Tess.

What is a difference between fate and destiny? The main one is that it’s only up to people to make their important life decisions, while destiny is something that has already decided. Take a look at the effects of destiny of the life of the main character to get a better understanding of this famous novel. Besides, it’s useful to make your in-depth analysis of Tess because she is a protagonist of this novel.

She is a young and attractive daughter in a standard working class family. In the beginning, she is sent to serve the d’Urbervilles when her family is faced with unavoidable poverty. This is how she becomes a lower class background, despite her good education. Keep in mind that this fluidity of class backgrounds plays an important role in this novel because it seems that Tess can move from upper to lower classes.

This female character is introduced as a pure, innocent, and beautiful woman who symbolizes virginity and purity. She meets Alec when asking for a job from the d‘Urbervilles and he seduces her so that Tess ends up bearing his baby who dies in infancy. She has to leave to start a new life and that’s why she decides to work in a diary where she meets Angel, a man whom she falls in love with and gets married. Tess is obedient and dutiful in the beginning, but she keeps gaining more fortitude and strength because of her suffering. She still remains unwavering in her relationship with Angel and is ready to do anything he says.

In conclusion, Tess of the D’Urbervilles is one of the most prominent literary works and the most famous novel of Thomas Hardy. All students need to read and analyze it to get a clearer picture of important themes and the society of that time. You should pay attention to both male characters and Tess to understand the meanings depicted by the author.
