The Hunley and Its Concept Ideas

It’s not a secret that people keep pushing their limits of existence, and this fact is proven throughout their history in different ways. Some of these attempts are started by those daredevils who want to risk their lives, while others are caused by the necessity of new ideas and inventions to preserve a usual way of life. One of the most brilliant examples of the latter one is the invention of submarines.

You should pay attention to Hunley and its concept if you’re interested in this subject. This vessel was surrounded by mystery. What is it all about? Where did this vessel come from? Why did people decid to build it? Why is it so important for history? There are many questions that you may want to ask when researching this subject, but most of them remain without clear answers.

The concept and story of the Hunley are unsolved and forgotten by time. However, if you want to learn more about them, it’s necessary to look back to the American Revolution, as this is when the infernal machine was invented, and it was called the Turtle. It was a one-man and small submarine constructed from some painted wood that resembled a big wooden keg barrel. Take into account that the Hunley and this small submarine had many similar features and characteristics. They both were man-powered and had those explosives that remained stuck into the hull of other ships. Another important similarity is that they had basic qualities that allowed them to be called submarines.

To understand what influenced the Hunley and its construction, you should take a look at its predecessors. They were more familiar in their shapes, but they still used the so-called crude technology. The first one is the Pioneer that was man-powered, just like the Hunley. Others were identical in their shapes, but they came with certain differences, including the fact that they were the first ones run on power from other sources that living creatures. These submarines were powered by an electrical engine that was replaced with a hand crank later as it couldn’t sustain the power necessary to propel them through the water.

Why was this famous submarine called this way? Keep in mind that Horace Lawson Hunley is the namesake of the Hunley confederate submarine. It’s possible to speculate, but we can suggest that it was named in his honor as he played an important role and was a major benefactor of this submarine since the beginning of the Civil War. Finally, he covered the costs involved in constructing the Hunley.

It’s not a secret that people keep pushing their limits of existence, and this fact is proven throughout their history in different ways.
