Joan of Arc as a Heroine of France

You should be familiar with Joan and Arc because she is quite a famous and important historical personality. What makes her a true heroine of France? To answer this basic question properly, there are certain things that should be considered.

Basically, she was a young woman with her fresh perspectives on the Hundred Years’ War. England and France kept battling on and off because they were fighting for the French throne. During Joan’s youth, the old wounds of both countries opened up once again so that she found herself having specific visions of saints and angels advising her to go to the church regularly and be virtuous. However, she claimed that the Archangel Michael approached her and said that France needed her when she was only twelve years old. In this vision, Joan of Arc was also asked to take Orleans back from England and restore France to the king. 4 years later, this young 16-year old woman obeyed her visions and decided to start her quest.

It’s clear that many people didn’t believe her mission and visions, but they all were desperate for any help. After a few weeks of examination of her unique claims by a committee of theologians, Joan was taken quite seriously. That’s because her eloquent speeches and pious behaviors helped her establish a saintly reputation.

Joan of Arc boosted the necessary morale for the war, and many men willingly came to serve her mission. Her tactics and encouragement lifted allowed France change the tides of this war. There were other victories in addition to taking New Orleans, and they allowed her to deliver a crown to the king, Charles VII.

After a coronation, Joan of Arc wanted to recapture Paris from England because she was devoted to her nation and wanted to help all of them escape. The main problem is that she lacked the necessary support from the king, had insufficient funds, supplies, and over confidence from many French troops. All of these reasons caused things to take an unwanted downward spiral. Unfortunately, Joan of Arc no longer claimed any victory so that she was captured eventually.

Her story is learned by many students and history fans because it still remains unique in its sense. She wasn’t executed at once because no one wanted to create a martyr for France. Joan was imprisoned for a few months and supervised by men so that she was at a constant risk of raping. There was a retrial to investigate her execution and she was found innocent and made a saint less than one century ago.
