Differences among IQ and EQ

Emotional factor, EQ, is one of the ways to measure the person s ability to be successful in life. EQ was first developed in the 1980s and asserts that emotional factor or emotional intelligence is as valuable as intellectual factor (IQ).

According to the theories of brain function, high emotional factor means that a person is self-confident, self-aware, and able to carry through the attempts of emotional times. EQ is often tied directly to the level of success that you can have at the workplace and in personal relationships. Some companies offer to test the emotional factor of employees.

IQ measurement has existed for much longer than EQ. Alfred Binet developed the first modern IQ test in the beginning of the 20th century. Since then, many modifications on testing of intelligence factor have been made. Currently an IQ test involves a series of standardized questions, answers to which determine the level of IQ.

IQ measurement is associated with logical reasoning, knowledge of grammar and math skills, but many thinks that it is more about creative or emotional abilities.

IQ testing is not used that often now, as it simply measures how well people do on an IQ test. Emotional factor testing is becoming increasingly popular in the workplace since some employers feel that it can help predict how well potential employees behave in difficult circumstances.

Some educators and psychologists claim that neither EQ nor IQ tests provide a complete picture of a person. There are other types of tests, which may be as important.

Short EQ tests may also fail, because people realize that they are checking their emotional abilities. While an IQ test can have only one definitive answer to each question, people may not truthfully answer questions about their behaviors. Thus, the results can be skewed by what people think, what they would like employers to know, rather than true answers to the questions.

Some psychologists make a distinction between the emotional factor and emotional intelligence. All people are born with an innate emotional intelligence (EI), which can be distorted, when growing up in difficult circumstances, such as abusive parents. However, a stronger innate EI in people who don’t have high emotional factor could predict how well people from abusive homes might be able to improve their EQ.

Most agree that, while the EQ and IQ tests can provide some picture about the person, they are too broad to really sum up the person’s potential. This, however, does not discourage employers to use the emotional factor tests to make decisions about potential employees they hire to their companies.

Emotional factor, EQ, is one of the ways to measure the person s ability to be successful in life. EQ was first developed in the 1980s and asserts that emotional factor or emotional intelligence is as valuable as intellectual factor (IQ).
