The Holocaust during World War II

Basically, the Holocaust was a state-sponsored and systematic murder and persecution of Jews by the Nazi regime. Those people who came to power in 1933 thought that they were racially superior and Jews were an alien threat to their community so that they decided to destroy them all. During its era, authorities targeted other groups in Germany, including disabled people. They were persecuted on their behavioral, political, and ideological grounds.

What the Holocaust Is

There were more than 9 million Jews in Europe before it started, and most of them lived in those countries that were later occupied by the Nazi during the WWII. Fascists killed more than 3 million Jews by the end of this war. It’s obvious that Jews were the main victims of this regime, but there were many others victims, including Gypsies, disabled patients, etc.

As this tyranny spread all over Europe, fascists and their collaborators murdered a large number of people, including Soviet prisoners who were neglected, murdered, and maltreated. The Nazi’s target was Polish intelligentsia for killing and deporting. From the earliest years of this regime, authorities persecuted homosexuals and other people whose behavior didn’t match their social norms and rules. Don’t forget about political opponents and religious dissidents targeted by police officials because most of them died because of their maltreatment and incarceration.

Concentration Camps

The Nazi government established these camps to detain imagined and real ideological and political opponents. This is where fascists kept their victims of racial and ethnic hatred. Besides, they and their collaborators created transit camps, ghettos, and forced-labor camps to monitor and concentrate Jews and other enemies while facilitating their deportation. This is how Nazi authorities deported many Jews from Germany and other occupied territories. They were taken to killing centers and ghettos, called extermination camps, where almost all of them were killed in special gassing facilities.

The Holocaust ended with the WWII, but during its final months, SS guards have been taken camp inmates by train or death marches to prevent their liberation by enemies. The good news is that many survivors found their shelters in DP or displaced persons camps that were closed only in 1957. The crimes that took place in this period murdered many Jews and it was a real tragedy not only for Europe, but also for the entire world.
