Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice is not only the outstanding piece of classic, but also undoubtedly one of my favorite compositions. Nowadays its plot might seem a bit stereotype and even commonplace, but it made some kind of literary revolution when saw the light in 1813. And now the reader can admire the glorious outline of relations between men and women, parents and children, rich and poor. The romantic storyline which represents primarily love affair of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy shows us an importance of initial impressions. Jane Austen tries to make it clear that it's essential to figure out all the details before evaluating a person. Protagonists have a long way to go from disaffection and prejudice to attachment and love. I think that the most powerful scene of the entire novel is Mr. Darcy’s admission of love for Elizabeth. It represents the love despite all odds: his reason, his prejudice, his dislike of her relatives and ancestry, their social inequality. I find it the defining moment of the story.

The novel is also remarkable for lack of unnecessary moralism what is atypical for compositions of XVIII and XIX centuries. Author portrays everything peacefully and without any exaggeration. It represents the female mode of life and world view of those times with greatest fidelity. Reader can understand all the specificities of those people’s routine. Jane’s youth was held in similar circumstances, and it let her describe it so clearly. She perceived that there are a lot of hidden conflicts and even dramas behind the well-established provincial life which is subjected to immutable rules of decorum and rigid morality. She writes about modest rural life with its boring everyday and rare holidays, few residents and occasional visitors whose arrival has always been an event. Meanwhile she describes aristocratic society trying to demonstrate that there is no such a huge difference between upper crust and provincials.

The one more distinctive feature of the novel I like very much is its brilliant humor. There are no jokes that can make you burst out laughing, and there's nothing in common with vulgar, toilet humor which is so popular today. But author portrays all the developments using smart and ingenious irony, not evil and always suitable. It helps to understand peculiarity of human life of those times and writer’s view of it. Probably the best description will be the fact that this novel is an outstanding example of world-famous British humor, and it will immediately elevate your mood and put a smile on your face for all the time of reading the book.

Pride and Prejudice is not only the outstanding piece of classic, but also undoubtedly one of my favorite compositions. Nowadays its plot might seem a bit stereotype and even commonplace, but it made some kind of literary revolution when saw the light in 1813.
