The Depression in Teens

Teens always have problems. It is known, but we should understand that these problems are not their fault. It is simply a result of growing up. So, what an adult should do is to help a teen face such problems or even find a solution.

When childhood passes, teens realize they are becoming adults. They now have some responsibilities, and not only desires. This often leads to a depression. Just think yourself: you’ve had everything you could wish, and now you need to face real troubles to get it. Moreover, a child understands that his parents won’t always be with him, and that sometimes he will need to make serious decisions himself.

First problem that rises with teen age is commonness. This means teenager understands he’s not someone special. So, it leads to a wish to become unique. Children in teen age are often impermanent. They may change their hobby for like ten times a week. And it is normal. But a parent ought to help his child choose the right one. Sometimes teenager only needs a simple talk to understand what he truly loves.

Second problem is that a teenager wants everyone to see him an adult. However, he usually can’t act like an adult, because he doesn’t have enough life experience. This way, everybody sees him a child, and this also leads to a depression.

Third thing a parent should remember is the generation gap. As one wise man said, the generation gap is nothing new. It is true, indeed, but it always becomes a shuttlecock, because parents may still see a teenager as a child. They are right, but there’s no need to show it to him. A parent could discuss some issues with his son or daughter just like if he/she was an adult. This doesn’t mean to talk about something serious, but just to have an everyday conversation. Moreover, parents should also remember about that generation gap. It is not a real problem, but teenagers may believe so. Just be careful saying: “Back in my times…” – children really hate this thing.

So, teenagers’ depression is a serious issue, and parents shouldn’t forget about it. They should always stay close to their child so that he (or she) won’t do anything wrong. However, don’t become an overseer. Remember that a teenager is almost an adult man. So, he wants everyone to believe it.

In my opinion, it’s not hard to overcome a teenager’s depression. The best way to do so is to become a friend to your child. This way you will always know what’s going on with him and how to help him. The generation gap isn’t actually that big.
