Adventures of Huckleberry Finn's Corrupt the Teen's Mind

Despite being famous and created by a respected writer Mark Twain, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn cannot be classified as a suitable book for the teens at the age of 11-14 years old. Immature consciousness might not be ready to “process” the themes of unlawfulness and severity observed in the book. This is not a simple story for entertainment and the readers’ age shall be restricted.

First of all, the book’s concept may negatively influence children’s beliefs and values. Huck Finn is a true rebel – he rejects studying at school, communicates with criminals, involved into dangerous events. Dirty, impudent and ill-mannered boy shall be understood as a person whom is bad to become. Stealing and deceit cannot be a right example for young minds.

Moreover, writing style, described problems and vocabulary set by the author is surely not for the teens. Representation of slavery, “blacks” humiliation as common and acceptable situation is completely wrong for the present time. The book was written during a hard period when norms and principles of democracy and tolerance were disclaimed.

Cruel scenes such as murders and violence are absolutely unacceptable to be read by children. High school age is the period when students “absorb” the information and form their life values, goals and behavioral pattern. It is vitally important to give them “right things” for evaluation and study – proper books and movies supporting the ideas of honesty, justice and friendship.

Kids’ minds are not prepared for murders description, it can be crucial for their further growing up. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn can only be provided as a bad way of life and shall not be taught at high school.
