A Comprehensive Summary of Alice Munro's "Boys and Girls" Alice Munro's "Boys and Girls" is a story about a girl that struggles against society's notions of how a woman should be, just to discover her trapped in the manners of the world. The narrative starts out on a farm in the 1940's. The narrator is a girl who is telling the first person point of view of if she was a woman. The woman's father was a fox farmer. He was a hard working, silent guy and the girl really respected him. Every winter that the father killed the foxes that he raised and marketed their pelts. The woman enjoyed this time and discovered it seasonal, but her mom loathed it. Initially the woman is about two years old. She had a younger brother called Laird with whom she shared a bedroom. At night when they would go to bed they would get frightened and try to distract themselves from singing. After Laird goes to sleep that the girl stayed up and told herself stories. In these stories she was a terrific hero. She was courageous and bold and she achieved amazing feats to save others. Everybody adored her to be heroic. The tales always involved her shooting and riding though she couldn't ride a horse or shoot a gun. The girl took great pride at the fact that she assisted her father with the actions on the farm. Her principal task was to water that the foxes. Laird would help with a small watering can though he'd usually spill most of his water. The woman would also help her dad when he'd cut the long grass round the fox pencils. He would cut it and she would rake it up. He would then toss the grass on top of the pencils to keep the sun off of their foxes. The whole fox pen was nicely thought out and well made. The foxes were fed horsemeat, which may be had very affordable. After a farmer had a dying horse her dad would cover the horse and slaughter it. Her father was quite inventive along with his fox farm and also the woman was clearly impressed. She was proud to work with her daddy. One time while her father was talking to a salesman he stated, "Just like you to meet my new hired man." That comment made her so happy, only to have the salesman reply that he believed it was just a woman. While the girl enjoyed the work outside she loathed to do exactly the 'woman's work' inside. She disliked her mother for making her do it, and considered that her mum just made her make it...
