Consider La Belle Dame sans Merci and To Autumn by John Keats John Keats was born in 1795 and died in 1821. He lived a brief life because he suffered from tuberculosis, and died in his early twenties. Keats is one of the excellent Romantic poets of the early 19th century. Most of his poetry was crammed into the last few years of his lifetime, which explains the reason why a few of his poems relate death. He had a terrific passion for nature, which was always included within their own poetry in some way. He watched his mother and his brother die of TB when he was younger so that he realised he too had the illness he knew what was in store. He moved to reside in Italy because many people believed that the temperature could help the illness. That is when are in which he wrote the two poems we will be comparing, le belle dams sand merci and to autumn. His screenplay ‘La Belle Dams sans Merci,’ meaning ‘A Beautiful Woman with no Merci,’ is all about knight falling in love with a wicked fairy. Through the poem it describes the knight’s feelings and everything he sees. It ends quite publicly as we are not sure whether it all actually happened or if it was a fantasy. The nature of the poem is quite deeply clarified as well as the people included in the poem are contrasted to nature, ‘she found me roots of relish sweet.’ The knight from the poem suffers from symptoms such as, ‘alone and palely loitering,’ that the paleness is a symptom that is an indication of TB so possibly Keats is saying that he's the knight. The following symptom of tb which keats would have had to survive is ‘with anguish moist and fever dew,’ significance that he was in distress and coming back with a fever and can be clammy.
