In the short tales Hell-Heaven by Jhumpa Lahiri and The Yellowish Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman both tales convey very similar theme. Gilman’s short tale, The Yellow Wallpaper, tells a tale of a mentally unstable wife, while Lahiri’s short tale, Hell-Heaven, informs us in regards to a mother and daughters tale from the perspective of her daughter. The characters from both stories result from different cultures but a very important factor they both have in common is their roles. They marry with the goal of serving for household responsibilities such as cooking, washing, laundry, and looking after children if indeed they have any.
