The major character, Alonso Quejana, is a man close to age fifty who's spent all his life reading books concerning the medieval knights. In doing this, he's shifted his awareness of reality and came to thinking that he himself proved to be a knight errant. He gave himself the title Don Quixote and chose to adhere to the chivalric code and deliver justice into the world. Before Quejana became Quixote, he had no desire to help out mankind or bring an end to injustice, however with the help of his imagination his entire outlook on life transformed. He saw life how it ought to be through his ideals instead of the reality of it. Don Quixote embark on a quest with his squire Sancho. The first obstacle they encounter is that a field of windmills.
