In "My Last Duchess", Robert Browning uses standpoint, diction, and vision to achieve a strong impact, underlining the mindset and character of this Duke. In a dramatic monologue, personality development is dependent on what the speaker says, and the way he says it. In "My Last Duchess", the speaker of the monologue addresses a fictional crowdas well as the reader is viewed as an unnoticed third party. It is as a result of this perspective that the reader is able to examine the words and activities of their Duke, gaining insight to his life and personality which he is not aware of committing. Even though the poet uses his words to communicate his own intended meaning, it's all up to the reader to draw his own conclusion, through the seen events and conversation. His arrogant and possessive nature has to be gleaned from the Duke's personality in the way he speaks, just as the specifics of the setting and situation has to be inferred from his own words. Although the reader Isn't directly spoken to in the poem, rating of their Duke's gaudy attitude could be inferred through his fear with the art and his casual description of his wife, which is noticed from the uninvolved writer. The Duke would like to present himself as a strong and sophisticated person, and he does so at first. But as he.
