Taylor then hid the six U.S. embassy workers for almost 3 months. Many have heard of the movie ARGO. Tony Mendez, who was a CIA technical operations officer, planned out a fictitious movie that would be filmed in Iran. This was a joint U.S. Canadian covert operation. Mendez and the six hostages he planned to rescue were given fake Canadian paperwork from the Canadian government. On January 25th 1980 Mendez and a few different agents arrived in Tehran posing as the film crew. Mendez then reached the six hostages at their hideaway. On January 27th 1980 Mendez and the six hostages boarded a plane and escaped the country. This operation completed a national interest of the security of American citizens, while also lowering the danger of conflict. If a group of American Navy Seals had landed in Tehran to rescue the six hostages, and a firefight ensued, then there might be a possibility that the sixty-six hostages in the American Embassy could have been harmed.
