William Wilberforce & the Abolition of the British Slave Trade William Wilberforce, a part of British Parliament, led a struggle against Parliament to put and end to the slave trade, a barbarous and inhumane enterprise. It was not an easy feat to achieve, lasting close to 20 decades and there were lots of obstacles confronted throughout the period. With persistence and perseverance, he and others that he worked with, managed to outlaw the slave trade of Britain. Not merely did he affect his time period, but had a lasting affect on other societies, beginning a movement of abolishing slavery. The British slave trade was among the major areas of the British economy and it had been very prevalent it the moment, particularly one of the upper class. Slavery was an exceptionally accepted and legal practice. The notion of abolition now was unheard of. The amount of racism in the 18th century was very high. Small to be known, a ground breaking motion with a young Parliament member from the name of William Wilberforce, could change British history forever.
