Teaching Philosophy Cicero said, "What noble employment is much more precious to the state than the man who instructs the rising generation?" He was right in stating this because the young people of today will become the world leaders of tomorrow. The teachers that teach these children are very important to this society since they'll help shape the lives of these young men and women. When deciding upon a philosophy of schooling, I had been torn between 2: Progressivism and Essentialism. The concept of teaching students with real-world experiences is 1 reason I can identify with Progressivism. On the flip side, the "back-to-basics" approach to teaching is a reason I think in Essentialism. It's my view that combining both philosophies can help students learn how to become more imaginative. This is only because I feel they need to know the basics in addition to how to use them in the actual world. I'm working toward a degree in Elementary Education since I want to become among the first teachers at a childвЂ™s life. By instructing the younger children I can help them grasp the basics. It is my view that without the basic comprehension of reading and writing students would be missing in the education process in addition to the world. My plans of teaching will start with the basics, but as the kids start to grasp these thoughts, I need to help them use their knowledge in different ways. In this society, people have to be able to think on their feet. They have to be able to take a position and look at it from several different angles to decide how to change or repair it.
