Fantastic Expectations and The Go Between Both Great Expectations and The Go Between issue young men from poor backgrounds who find themselves thrust into the world of the leisured classes and are altered forever. What similarities and differences do you see between the methods in which the two writers handle and produce this shared situation? The reason we have chosen to compare and contrast Great Expectations and The Go Between is because they have many clear and lots of subtle similarities that I am to discuss during t he course of this Essay. Although both books were written a century apart they are based around the same themes highlighted later on in this essay. In the debut of both books we learn they're both very first person narratives. The main figure in each book is the narrator who is telling a story in retrospective following the main event that has shaped his life. Leo, the major role in The Go Between is forty five years of age when he tells his story whereas Pip is in his late twenties or early thirties. Even though this is correct, the narrative of The Go Between is about twelve to thirteen times of Leo's life compared to fourteen decades of Pip's life expectancy. Also in The Go Between there is a more cautious narrative between the present and the past along with a comparison involving Leo as a sixty year old and a twelve year-old. There is also a prologue and epilogue at The Go Between whereas Fantastic Expectations proceeds chronologically.
