Self Portrait, 2007 by Chuck Close The art that ignited my interest in the High Museum of Art was the Self Portrait, 2007 by Chuck Close. In this particular painting, Close was affected by a printing technique used in Japan called nishiki-e. The nishiki-e technique involves multicolored wooden block printings, which would have a particular engraving on it and then arranged in a special way to make an image. Close enjoyed to experiment and combine various styles and techniques like employing "distinct media and materials, using airbrush and even his hands" (Spires) to make new artworks. Close had once stated, "Some of those marks seem like hot dogs, a few look like doughnuts, a few are almost square My paintings have been constructed like somebody would knit than the way somebody traditionally paints" (Over and Over Again). Close mostly painted gigantic pictures of family, friends; usually people he understood. The portraits that Close did of individuals "are so big that if the viewer stands shut, the surface looks like a series of blobs. However, from a distance, large face appears" (Over and Over Again). While speaking about Chuck Close it is very important to notice his life style for a child. In age 4 years old, he loved to draw, therefore shut new that he wished to become an artist if he got old. Close didn't partake in many sporting activities because he was diagnosed with dyslexia, which kept him out of being capable of playing with buddies.
