Langston Hughes Langston Hughes was born on February 1, 1902, in Joplin, Missouri. He had been named after his dad, James Hughes, but had been called Langston. He had been the only child from his parents James and Carrie Hughes. His parents weren't married for long due to an unhappy union. When they separated, Langston was left with his mom, who abandoned him behind to move from city to town to locate work. Langston ended up along with his 70 year old grandma in Lawrence, Kansas. He lived with her till he was 13, and he then went back together with his mother in Lincoln, Kansas following his grandmother died in 1915. Langston, his mum, along with his new stepfather lived in Lincoln for a year, until his stepfather found work and then they all moved into Ohio, where Langston moved to high school. Langston went to a high school called Central High. After 2 years, LangstonвЂ™s mum and stepfather moved into Chicago, however, Hughes stayed in Cleveland to Graduate from high school. Langston was quite devoted in large school. His very first article of poetry was printed in Central High Monthly, which was a very notable college magazine, which he later became team of and printed his work monthly. One of LangstonвЂ™s English teachers introduced him to writers like Carl Sandburg, and Walt Whitman, that eventually became LangstonвЂ™s earliest influences.
