Foreshadowing the Fate from The Cask of Amontillado At Cask of Amontillado, Edgar Allan Poe introduces a murderous tale of revenge shown because the confession of a man who murdered another man over fifty decades back because of an insult. Throughout a carnival festival, the murderer directed his companion into the catacombs where he murdered the man alive. The charter of Montresor lures his victim, Fortunato together with the guarantee of a nice sherry, amontillado. Since Poe's nature of Montresor guides the wine connoisseur, Fortunato, Poe symbolically foreshadows the imminent murder. Before even reading the story Poe foreshadows Fortunato's destiny with the title of the narrative. From the title of Poe's Cask of Amontillado the cask is brief for casket. Casket is the final resting place for many when they expire, therefore representing death. The Amontillado is that the means in which passing is attained even though not directly but by the luring supporting it. The title in its own translation means the death of somebody due to their fascination toward Amontillado. Elena Baraban, writer of "The Motive for Murder in "that the Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allan Poe", believes that "the whole vision of the crypt suggests that the phrase "Amontillado" is a metaphor" (55) symbolizing the way that Fortunato was murdered. With that the name of the narrative may be foreshadowing the end of Fortunato for the word cask signifies casket and when amontillado is a metaphor for Fortunato then the title would read "The Casket of Fortunato".
