My Philosophy of Education "I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside. Give them a feeling of pride...These lyrics from "The best Love of All" sung by Whitney Houston over 15 years ago have become almost trite. However, in simplified terms people lyrics sum up my philosophical attitude toward instruction and explain for me I want to teach, specifically basic education. The future of any generation is owned by the children of the generation. The present is all we have to help the decision makers of tomorrow to shoulder this responsibility with earnestness, wonderment, and a sense of pride. I think of social reconstructionism once I think of the ways in which society can become more equitable as well as the ways in which early childhood education may positively effect that shift. But I wouldn't say that I am a social reconstructionist. The overwhelming job of changing societies prejudices cannot be achieved in one classroom during one school year. However a seed of toleration and comprehension can be implanted and as a teacher I would highlight critical thought and it's use in providing solutions for what seems unfair.
