Today, people think that women were free in the west and that the women's liberation movement started in the 20th Century. Actually, Islam lacked all of the existing systems in introducing women's rights more than two centuries ago. The women's liberation movement has been revealed by God to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him at the twentieth century. An entire package of new rights was given at once to girls by their founder without their having to strive to get them. The Qur'an and the Traditions of the Prophet (Hadith and Sunnah) ensure every Muslim girl certain rights and duties. Equality vs. Sameness These rights are equivalent to those of a guy but they are not necessarily identical. Equality and sameness are two unique things. This difference is understandable because man and woman aren't identical but they are created equals. The distinction between equality and sameness is of paramount importance. With this distinction in mind, there is no room to imagine that woman is inferior to person, simply because her rights aren't identical. Had her standing identical with his, she'd have been a replica of him which she's not. The fact that Islam gives her equal rights - although not equal rights- reveals that it requires her to account, acknowledges her, and recognizes her independent personality and role.
