Criminalogical Theories Applied to Boost The Autobiography of an LA Gang Member In Dragon: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member, Kody Scott tells the story of the struggle between two significantly large gangs. At the age of eleven he was initiated in the Crips, and dedicated his first murder. This was this day which started what would turn into a profession for Kody: slamming (Scott, 1993). Kody worked hard to procure a reputation for his title. He held loyal to his homeboys and began to build up the Crips. His possibility of being in a leadership position became increasingly evident as time went on. During one incident, a police officer referred to him as a monster, and the name stuck. He worked tirelessly to meet his name, and shortly the heritage of Dragon was well recognized, by not only his own gang, but in others as well (Scott, 1993). Within this paper I intend to demonstrate how Kody's early child hood and teenage years, both proceeding and during his life because a Crip, match fairly well with various theories which were discussed in class around the quarter. The Arousal Theory says that because some individuals brain's function differently than others, things that stimulate, or interest a person may not do this to someone else. People with reduced arousals have a larger propensity to become criminally prone (Course Notes). Throughout the novel there are several examples of how Kody was bored with the everyday happenings of the life. In 1 part of this book he stated that the enthusiasm of the roads was "...the only thing in [his] life which had ever held [his] care for any serious amount of time" (Scott, 1993: 5). I feel that Kody has been a really smart boy, however, he also had a problem with his attention span. He never finished his education,.
