Differing Perspectives of Male-female Relationships in Three Poems In the three poems we encounter three distinct perspectives of male-female relationships should take place. In 'My Last Duchess' we undergo the view that the male should have the major role in customs, in 'La Belle Dame Sans Merci' we hear of a relationship in which the woman is in complete control of the man and has all the power. Eventually in 'A Woman to Her Lover' we see that both women and men must have an equal amount of electricity and nobody ought to be dominant. In 'My Last Duchess' the thoughts of a rather possessive and arrogant Duke of Ferrara are all shared. He expected his wife to act in a really conservative manner and wanted her to treat other people as poor. The Duke reveals his position of power in the poem by speaking to her as; 'My Last Duchess'. The Duke uses the possessive pronoun 'My' which indicates that the Duke does not want anyone else to delight in his wife's company and he wants her all to himself. This indicates that he has power over his wife as he describes her as a belonging; it also demonstrates that he's arrogant as well as dominant. Furthermore, we could realize that the word 'past' suggests that the Duke had elderly wives; it also indicates that she is his duchess no more and something must have happened to her. As a consequence of this we receive the impression that the Duke simply marries then divorces, or kills, his wife just to get her dowry, and to acquire more cash. We also can observe that when the Duke describes the image of his spouse, he immediately names the well known artist who painted it; "I predict that piece a wonder 'Frà Pandolf'''. Here we see that the Duke reveals off the simple fact the painting was made by a famed artistthat he could.
