We have to Put an End to Gender-related Stereotypes I've heard it said many times and from many women, "I wish that I were a man. Men have it so easy..." It is a statement which stems from the anger and fear that comes from a long time of oppression and abuse; a statement that stems from the pressure to satisfy the current impossible standards of beauty and bodily perfection. Occasionally it seems to be a clear statement to make. Ironically, I have found myself wishing that very absurdity once the pressures of being a woman have seemed to be a lot. But as I get older, and hopefully wiser, I'm happy to state, and even very proud, that ! I'm a woman. It is a very exciting time for me as a young woman to watch the changes which our world is undergoing at the present moment. So much is happening around us that it seems like anything could occur and that all things are possible. It is all very frightening and exciting at precisely the exact same time. I am not exactly certain how or if the Women's Rights movement started, but I really do believe that we have come a long way, we have quite a way to go before we're free of these gender-related stereotypes and immense pressures to be "The great Woman." I know that many skeptics will wonder whether or not that liberty is attainable, but I do believe that in this stage in time all things are possible. I believe in the equality of the sexes. I believe in the equality of all people whether they're black, white, female, or man. Maybe it isn't difficult for me to be this positive and optimistic amidst these skeptics because of the family that I have.
