Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra's Don Quixote De La Mancha Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra was a Spanish writer that is most well known for his novel Don Quixote De La Mancha. The novel was written and set in about the late sixteenth to early seventeenth century and was composed in Cervantes indigenous language. The author narrates most of the novel's actions in the third person, after Don Quixote's actions and only occasio0nally entering into the thoughts of his characters. He switches to the first individual, but whenever he discusses that the book itself. Cervantes maintains an ironic distance from the characters and events in the book, talking them occasionally together with mock seriousness. The story consists of the adventures of a middle-aged gentleman, Don Quixote, from the region of La Mancha in central Spain. Obsessed with all the chivalrous ideals touted in books he has read, he makes the decision to take up his lance and sword to defend the helpless and destroy the evil. Following a first failed experience, he puts out on a second one with a somewhat befuddled laborer called Sancho Panza, whom he's persuaded to accompany him because his loyal squire. In exchange for Sancho's providers, Don Quixote promises to create Sancho the rich governor of an isle. In his "steed", Rocinante, a barn nag well beyond his prime, and Don Quixote rides on the roads of Spain in search of glory and grand adventure. He gives up meals, shelter, and comfort, all in the title of a peasant girl, Dulcinea d.. .
