My Scarlet Letter project is made up of a mannequin dressed in a great suit. Under the suit, I left a tattoo of the letter A on the mannequin's torso, and I also drew a tramp stamp. The letter A which signifies illness consists of nine Chinese characters that each have a symbolic significance and the tramp postage is the Chinese character for tempter. Assembling the project was quite time intensive, but it was not outside of my skills or hobbies. Cash, on the other hand, was a concern for me. Fortunately, I was able to buy a used mannequin for twenty five bucks at a warehouse. Because I lacked experience with Chinese characters, I was wary of just drawing the characters without some practice, so I had to make a few tough drafts on paper before drawing it on the mannequin. . When comparing my project to my proposal, you might notice a considerable difference. At first, I had been planning on creating a cavity into the torso of this mannequin and putting a symbolic object in there, but several complications occurred. To begin with, the warehouse only had mannequins made out of fiberglass instead of plastic that meant I would need to use a drill instead of a knife to make the cavity, and I was not confident in my skills with a drill. Second, it would not have been fun for me. Yes, the idea of using a mannequin attracted me, but everything else was dull to me. By comparison, I have wanted a meaningful tattoo because I was little even though I am not permitted to own one. Additionally, I love sketching which you have probably seen from all the doodling I do in class.
