Suffering and Love The Aeneid by Virgil and Inferno by Dante are both functions centering around experiences. In both of these experiences, love is connected with suffering. Why are suffering and love associated as such? At The Aeneid, Aeneas endured a wonderful deal and subsequently was fated to lead his visitors into Italy and Rome. Aeneas the Queen of Carthage, Dido, who finally kills herself from grief. In Inferno, Dante is chosen on a divine mission to observe that the depths and horrors of Hell. In Hell, Dante depended upon and is intrigued by two fans, Paolo and Francesca, who have been murdered by Francesca's husband, Gianciotti. &In The Aeneid, Aeneas is about a journey to lead his people, the Trojans into a new census. Aeneas was selected by fate to lead the Trojans to establish a new homeland in Italy and Rome. This destiny also signifies the national fate of Rome. Aeneas looks towards the future, towards Rome's authority across the known world. In the same way that the Promised Land was ensured to the Hebrews in the Old Testament, the Trojans' Promised Land was ensured by fate. Background would be the guarantor. The theme of this work is that of the way the nation came to be. &Aeneas suffers a great deal. Emerging from this suffering, Aeneas can direct his people and conquer their new homeland. Aeneas has lots of barriers that stand in his manner. Juno hates the Trojans and would like to do everything within her power to prevent the Trojans from hitting Rome and Italy. Aeneas has inner obstacles too. Until Aeneas descends into Hades, he will never completely gave up his previous lifestyle in Troy. He constantly thinks about his entire life in Troy. Weeping, I have to give up the beaches, the harbors which were my home, the plain that after was Troy (Book III, lines 14-15). He was still grieving for the family and friends that he dropped in Troy. At one stage Aeneas even said that it might have been better if he had perished in Troy. When Aeneas descended to the underworld, Anchises showed Aeneas that his lineage and all of the amazing Roman leaders that came from Aeneas. Anchises informed Aeneas that the Romans' fantastic gift would be for ruling. Roman, these will be your arts: to teach the ways of peace to all those you conquer, to spare defeated peoples, tame the proud (Book VI, lines 1135 -- 1137). Aeneas was inspired by this vision of their future...
