Devil on the Cross was written by Ngugi while he had been imprisoned. He had been held without trail by a government that tried to quiet him. The out come was a book that was "One of the century's greatest novels" from the Tribune. In the following passages I plan to explain the meaning of four characters that are affected by funding class. The speaker of this passage "She sat down on a box" is the gorgeous protagonist; Jacinta Wariinga. Jacinta Wariinga is a young beautiful black lady who readily stops "guys in their tracks." She is similar to Thanksgiving dinner, a banquet for the eyes. Jacinta moves with elegance when she is without shy. Under all her beauty, she is a suicidal man who welcomes her blackness. Jacinta really hates her blackness because she utilizes "skin-lightening creams." The skin-lightening cream disrupts her skin colour because the cream understands "what is born black may not be white". She clearly suffers from philosophical Imperialism. Cultural Imperialism has wiped out the songs, culture and art many. The military has taken more lands for their own private usage, economic stability cannot be achieved between classes since the gap between the wealthy and poor has increased and political authority is the only matter of significance. The individuals are of no significance since if they had been much better living conditions and necessary items are more reachable. Jacintas' colour coated thinking has led her to think "that her appearance [is] the root cause of all her problems." Jacinta analysis's her many issues having a little mirror. Jacinta is having a little mirror for fiddling problems if she needs to use a mirror such as the one in my room, 7feet tall with 5 feet wide. With that mirror she can examine all the cultural imperialism flaws rather than just her materialistic problems. The little mirror portrays her troubles to be trivial. If Jacinta truly wanted to analyze all of her troubles she needs to a use a mirror such as the one in my room, 5' by 7', she can clearly observe all of her defects. Ngugi, obviously attempted to show that her problems are trivial because the dimensions of the mirror. The speaker of this passage "Perhaps you have been on the road all this time" is Robin Mwaura that the "rapper." Robin Mwaura is a fictitious artist.
